Superintendent – Heavy Civil / Grading Construction

Salary: $100,000–$120,000 + Bonus Opportunity
Location: Columbia, SC 

A well-established heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee grading and site development projects throughout the Southeast. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in the field, values safety, and enjoys managing multiple crews and projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities

• Lead all field operations while maintaining the highest safety, quality, and production standards.

• Manage multiple grading and site development projects throughout the Southeast.

• Supervise and mentor foremen, operators, and field personnel.

• Coordinate project schedules, manpower, equipment, and material deliveries.

• Attend owner, engineer, client, and pre-construction meetings.

• Ensure projects remain on schedule and within production goals.

• Maintain OSHA and MSHA compliance on all assigned projects.

• Conduct routine safety inspections and lead safety meetings.

• Oversee erosion control installation, inspections, and compliance.

• Coordinate with Project Engineers on layouts, material submittals, and project documentation.

• Manage project paperwork including timesheets, fuel logs, load counts, change orders, and billing information.

• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training field personnel.

• Maintain company equipment, vehicles, and project documentation.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Superintendent in heavy civil, grading, earthwork, or site development.

• Strong knowledge of grading operations, road construction, and heavy equipment.

• Experience supervising multiple crews and managing several active projects simultaneously.

• Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations.

• Ability to read plans, coordinate schedules, and communicate effectively with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and field personnel.

• Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.

• Clean driving record and willingness to travel throughout the Southeast.

Preferred Experience

• Heavy equipment operations including dozers, excavators, motor graders, compactors, and loaders.

• Erosion and sediment control compliance.

• Production scheduling and equipment management.

• Project documentation, reporting, and cost awareness.
